This website serves as a source of news and information for the residents of DeLand and the surrounding communities regarding the status of remediation activities at the former manufacturing site located at 590 East International Speedway Boulevard in DeLand, Florida (a.k.a. Building G Property).
Guiding Principles
Site investigation and remediation efforts at 590 East International Speedway Boulevard are being performed with oversight of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) under these guiding principles:
- Site remediation will be protective of human health and the environment;
- Work will be in compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
- Safety is paramount; and,
- Community concerns and stakeholder input will be respected.
Site Status
The property located at 590 East International Speedway Boulevard in DeLand has a long history of industrial use. Extensive site investigations were conducted between 1992 and 2015, which identified impacts to soil and groundwater. While remediation activities were required, the FDEP determined that there were no unacceptable health or safety concerns related to impacts from historic manufacturing operations.
Between 1996 and 2017, remediation activities were performed to address soil and groundwater impacts in the upper surficial and deeper Floridian aquifers. Post-remediation monitoring has confirmed that active remediation met its goals.
With remediation of soil and source areas complete, and groundwater conditions stable and improving, the FDEP has agreed to conditionally close the project using an Institutional Control, or administrative tool, to manage groundwater use in the future.
